Six Libertarians win local office "elections" --
two months early
PANORAMA CITY -- Six Libertarian candidates for non-partisan
office have already "won" their elections -- a full two months
earlier than expected, the Libertarian Party of California
announced today.
The six electoral "victories" resulted because not enough
candidates filed for the offices in question to contest them.
Under state law, candidates for those offices are automatically
appointed to the positions they are seeking -- thus "winning"
the election by default.
"A win is a win and we will take it," declared Libertarian
state chair Mark Hinkle. "We now have six more Libertarians in
office who can put Libertarian solutions into practice at the
local level and work to diminish the impact of government in
their communities."
The six Libertarian "winners" are:
1 -- Geoff Braun of Placentia (Orange County), who won a seat
on the Placentia Library District
2 -- Gilbert Carroll of Milpitas (Santa Clara County), who won
a seat on the Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District
3 -- John Dennison of Healdsburg (Sonoma County), who is now a
board member of the Alexander Valley Unified School District
4 -- Ray English of Descanso (San Diego County), who won
reelection
to the Descanso Community Planning District
5 -- Kelly McKnight of Pescadero (San Mateo County), who won a
seat
on the board of directors of the La Honda-Pescadero Unified
School District
6 -- Gary Molle of San Jose (Santa Clara County), who along with
Gilbert Carroll now sits on the board of the Guadalupe-Coyote
Resource Conservation District
The addition of these six names brings the total number of
appointed
or elected California Libertarians in office to 35 -- a number that
Libertarians predict will increase further come November 7.
"With an additional 289 Libertarians on the November ballot in
California seeking federal, state, and local office, we are assured
more
victories," concluded Hinkle. "This was only the beginning."
