What do the origin codes in the inquiry records mean?

The origin codes indicate what organization provided the information and the general method of contact.

The code currently begins with one of the following:

LPgeneral LP activity
LP HQactivity managed by LP national office
LP xxa state or local LP activity in state xx
ASGAdvocates for Self-Government

The remainder of the code indicates the method of contact and is currently one of the following:

WWWWorld Wide Web
800800-number call
PHONEsome other kind of phone call
EMAILan e-mail message
EVENTfair, rally, meeting or other event
CAMPAIGNreferred by an LP campaign for public office
REFERpersonal referral
OTHERsomething else or unknown

So, for example:

LP HQ 800means from the national 800-number
ASG WWWmeans from the Advocates' WWW site
LP NY EVENTmeans from some local event in New York

Note: If you have a program automatically processing these records, you should not assume that these are the only possibilities, since others may be added in the future. Make sure your program treats unknown codes as some kind of "other" category.

In some cases there will be additional information about the source of the inquiry in other fields. For example, records which result from 800-number calls sometimes include a note that the person was calling in response to a radio show.
